Mitigate the crisis of chronic reality by initiating water conservation projects

Water is important for sustaining life on this planet. It is one of the most essential natural resources that is a limited edition in itself. We all are aware of the importance of water and the heavier it is falling on our wallet with the developing years. Water has been the reason for hue and cry for many communities. Water shortage has become the chronic reality of many rural areas of the country. To mitigate this crisis of chronic reality Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has initiated a water conservation project called Project BOOND.

This special project is elevating the water-scarce areas into water positive land. With the powerful service of Project BOOND, BPCL has successfully converted 230 villages across the country into water positive lands. States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan had abundant rural vicinities that were suffering from scarcity of basic drinking water. With the success of Project BOOND, the lives of these villages have been transformed.

The project has embraced several proactive measures like rainwater harvesting, roof water harvesting, deepening of well, augmenting groundwater level, construction of farm ponds, KT weir dams, and a lot more. With the help of the netzines’ and the successful implementation of primitive techniques, Project BOOND has turned out to be a life-changing initiative for many villages. The key features of the project were:

1.Energizing lives:
With the vision of conserving and energizing lives, BPCL had started off this project almost two decades ago. Water scarcity had been the grim reality of many places, however, some areas were very critically affected. To support the life force in such areas, Project BOOND was curated. For 2 decades it has helped the scarce areas to retain their groundwater level with the use of locally acclaimed measures.

2.Harvesting livelihood:
Project BOOND not only strategically elevated the groundwater replenishment but also lighted hopes in the heart of the villagers by implementing harvesting techniques that could enliven their livelihood. The establishment of check dams was intervened to store rainwater so that it could be used later on. Roof-water harvesting became another important intervention in the water-deficient areas which also helped the farmers in achieving a better livelihood. The problem of acute water shortage was solved by investing the idea of water harvesting among the farmers which transformed their lives.

3.Conserving Future:
Another crucial transition caused by Project BOOND was that it helped in achieving the impossible feat of preserving the future of deficient fruits and vegetables. As a result of the scarcity of water, the future of much enriching flora was at stake. With the successful intervention of the project, the impossible feat was retained.

4.Empowering villages:
Besides several outcomes of Project BOOND, the most unparalleled was that the project empowered the communities which were suffering due to a shortage of water. Several farm ponds, dams, and tanks were built which invited employment. It also enticed revenue with organic and fishery farming. Via the project, BPCL could create a substantial transformation in community life.
Self-help groups were also initiated to curate and communicate to the participants about the importance of self-empowerment and the achievement of a common goal.

5.Preserving resources:
With Project BOOND BPCL had also engaged in preserving the flora and fauna in the nearby areas of the project. Preserving natural resources has accelerated ever since the commemoration of this project. With BOOND, the water retention period in well, pond, and tanks have improved rapidly. Since 2013, many more initiatives like watershed development, training programs for farmers, self-help groups, and a lot more have been started to preserve and protect the resources.

With Project BOOND, there was a life-changing transition in the water-deficient zones. The lost lush was replenished successfully with more notice towards protecting and preserving the flora and fauna. Water is a paramount resource, the conservation of which enlivens other limited resources that is why water conservation project was initiated.
